A bit of MDX to start the week, it feels good?

As you have already seen in the title, the purpose of this article is to share with you some time-based MDX functions that are very useful.

Time is an essential component for business analysis. Analysts interpret the state of the business now, often relative to what it was in the past, in order to understand what it might be in the future.

To support this, Analysis Services provides a number of time-based MDX functions, here are some of them:

The Exists function in MDX

Often, you want to limit one set to another by using the feature self-exists, but without the members of the second set present in the results, in these situations, the function Exists can be used.

Exists ({Set1}, {Set2})

Run an SSRS subscription with SSIS

A quick post to see how to launch an SSRS subscription from SSIS.

It can be used as in my case for example to send by mail a report on the execution status of an SSIS package. Of course after inserting the logs of this package in a table, create a restitution report of these logs as well as a subscription which sends the report by email.

Defragmentation of an index (REORGANIZE)

To understand how SQL Server defragments an index, consider a simplified example of pages after many insertions, updates, and deletes, as shown in the following figure.
